It’s not often that we take the time out to be tourists in our own country. More often than not, the truth is that we’d either stay home over the vacation and just recuperate or spend some extra cash to go on a more exotic adventure (if you have the cash). Sadly though, this often means that a majority of the amazing places that exist within your own country get overlooked as decent, fun, and affordable places to spend a vacation with your family.
The Mariposa Grove is one of the oldest nature reserves in America and is famed for some pretty amazing nature – granted that you’re close to California.
The grove has only just reopened this year after being closed for renovations since 2015. The park has so many wonderful hiking trails and natural beauty that you could easily spend more than a weekend wandering around this beautiful area and almost forget that you’re in America! It’s an unreal place with some magnificent flora that feels as though it’s from another time.
One of the first things you’re likely to come across earlier on during your time in the reserve is the Giant Grizzly. This giant beast of a tree is over 1,800 years old and will transport you back to an ancient time long before America looked anything like the country it is today. Walking this trail is almost like going time jumping and you’ll feel like you’re literally in another time!
The entire park area is roughly just under 7,000 feet in diameter which means you can spend a great deal of time walking trails or simply exploring the woods for a while. There’s nothing like an affordable getaway and Mariposa Grove proves that you don’t have to book a flight to a remote destination to feel as though you’ve completely unplugged from the world. So if being in nature is something that appeals to you, then we highly recommend that you visit Mariposa Grove on your vacation!
