Not far from the rocky coastline of Praia do Norte, in Nazare, Portugal, brave adventure enthusiasts and skilled slackliners will find the Pedra do Guilhim, a breathtaking, 50-foot-tall rock formation where giant waves break, reaching heights that take over the entire crag.

Aidan Williams, an Australian photographer, recently ventured to the wonderous and terrifying natural structure to capture slackliner Andrey Karr traverse the line, which stretches for close to 85 feet above the deadly rocky waters.

With massive waves crashing onto the rock face behind him, Williams describes the experience. “It’s hard enough just staying on a line, but here the waves can knock you off,” says Karr. “Even taking the photograph was difficult.”

The calm and serene beach town has now become a highly-sought after destination for thrill-seekers who enjoy the rush of slacklining or surfing. There are few places in the world where you can truly experience the raw force and power of mother nature. “You’re constantly confronted by different elements, like the water or the wind,” says Williams. “I’d seen massive waves before, but seeing this right in front of you is something you can’t believe.”

Williams now considers himself to be somewhat of an adrenaline junkie. His lifestyle as an adventure photographer has allowed him to see some of the most beautiful and scary places in the world- places that are practically untouched by man.

He has photographed slackliners risking it all as they cross the deep canyons of Utah. He's also captured slackliners conquer lines high atop the mountain ranges of Switzerland in the midst of turbulent snowstorms. When asked what always keeps him coming back for more, Williams responded, “The belief is that your life is literally on the line, and I fell in love with it.”
