The Rio de Janeiro Carnival is one of the most anticipated events of the year – and for a good reason. If you’re new to the scene or a seasoned regular, here’s everything you need to know about Rio Carnival 2019.
When Is The Carnival?
The carnival is set to take place from March 1, 2019, all the way through to March 9. The event typically attracts 2 million people and is now the biggest carnival in the world as everyone comes together for nine days of fun, dancing, and partying.
How Much Is The Carnival?
The majority of the Rio Carnival is a street party meaning you don’t need tickets to attend. However, the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí parade is one of the main attractions, and tickets can cost anywhere from $105.90 all the way up to $1,059 depending on your view of the event.
Is There A Theme?
There is never an overall theme to the carnival, but every year produces a new version of the parade. The floats, dances, and costumes will typically follow the same narrative as everyone comes together to tell a story. The best bit? The dancers are all from dance groups in the neighborhood meaning the performances are always entirely different each year.
What To Look Out For
It’s not just the main parade and street party that draws so many people in. In fact, there are often several smaller street parties happening throughout the neighborhood that still offer up the fun of the event with less chaos. As well as getting to enjoy some local home cooked food, you could soon see yourself learning how to samba the true Brazilian way.
There are some events that seem to make their way onto most of our bucket lists. The Rio Carnival is no exception. As well as being the most popular of its kind in the world, this carnival will offer up experiences like no other. It truly is out of this world.
