There was a time when bath bombs and bubbles could be the perfect end to a working day, but if that’s not doing it for you anymore, then maybe this beer bath will. That’s right, Us Weekly has reported that you can now lie in a vat of beer at a resort in Japan.
Located in the Misugi Resort, two hours from Kyoto, Japan, is the hot spring, Hinotani Onsenm. The main draw at this resort is the beer bath which combines homemade Japanese craft beer with hot natural spring water every thirty minutes. That means that every thirty minutes foamy liquid that looks like a dark lager appears and visitors can bathe themselves in it.
According to the Misugi website, the beer contains live yeast, carbonic acid, and enzymes in the malt. In fact, these enzymes will apparently soften and clean your skin, giving great advantages to this bath.
Youki Nakagawa, a brewmaster and part owner of Misugi Resort, went further in explaining the health benefits of beer baths. He said, “The yeast in the beer gives you very smooth skin, and the hops have an antibacterial power that is also good for your skin. On top of that, the C02 in the beer is good for blood circulation.” Who knew?!
It must be noted that scientists have not proven these claims made by the owners at the resort, but that still doesn’t mean it is not worth giving it a try. A 45-minute session will cost you around $15, and the Misugi Resort suggests booking a bath in advance rather than just turning up unannounced. If the beer bath is not totally up your alley or you’re looking for somthing more while making the visit, then there is also a regular hot spring, a Hinotani brewery, hiking trails, and cooking classes to enjoy at the resort.
