With an average temperature of 86 degrees, white sand beaches, crystal clear water and stunning views, it is no surprise that Barbados has become the celebrity hotspot for a winter getaway.
While there are many other gorgeous Caribbean island’s, Barbados seems to be the one that is the place to see and be seen, but what sets it apart from the rest?
Firstly, the island is very accessible and all major airlines offer direct routes to Bridgetown. From New York, you can be there in four-and-a-half hours, making it the perfect place to escape the below freezing temperatures in the city.
Secondly, the Island is just 21 miles long and 14 miles wide making it easy to explore the island by foot or bicycle. By foot, there is plenty to offer and many people are encouraged to trek up Mount Hillaby to take in the stunning panoramic views that Barbados has to offer.
If activities aren’t your thing and you just want to sit back and soak up the sun with a cocktail in hand, you’re in luck. Barbados is the home of Mount Gay rum and with 310 years of production, it is the oldest rum and continually produced spirit in the world.
Tourists can even take a trip to the visitors center for Mount Gay in Bridgetown and can have a testing session and delicious meal to accompany it. Fans of the rum include superstar Rihanna, who was born and raised on the island and still has a home and family there.
If you’re a fan of fresh fish and seafood then Barbados is the place for you as plenty of Bajan cuisine is famous for it. Fried fish in spicy sauce is particularly popular, as is curried beef with local sourced plantain.
For breathtaking views and delicious local delicacies, head to Animal Flower Cave located on the Northern tip of the island. In the months between February to April, you may be able to spot humpback whales while you dine.
Spend your days in and out of the crystal clear water. Go snorkeling with turtles or explore the vibrant reefs going scuba diving. Wildlife is not the only thing you will spot out at sea, with the celebrities come the super yachts, and the winter months are home to boats belonging to Simon Cowell and Sir Philip Green.
You may assume that the celebrities will sleep on their huge yachts, but this is not the case. Stars including Beyoncé, Jay Z, Mark Wahlberg and model Cara Delevingne have all been known to stay at the luxurious five-star hotel Sandy Lane, which is situation right on the beachfront.
For other tourists traveling on a budget, there are plenty of other hotels and apartment complexes which are situated close by for a much more affordable price.
With all this in mind, you have no choice but to hit Barbados for your next vacation-just make sure to keep your eyes peaeled, and expect to rub shoulders with some famous faces!
