All That Free Time
The six friends would spend most of their time at Central Perk, but how could they have had so much free time while working full-time jobs? Monica was even a head chef at a restaurant!
They Always Had The Couch Reserved
They may have been spending most of their time at Central Perk, all hanging out with one another while we would assume they should be at work. However, they didn’t just spend all their time in their cafe but, better yet, always had the couch reserved for them. As a public cafe, with many people needing to make their morning coffee runs or meet their own friends for an afternoon catch-up, we’re sure that couch could not have always been free.
Living In An Upscale New York City Apartment
It is well-known that trying to afford an apartment in New York City is not made easy, and trying to find one that is nice and livable is almost impossible. Then how was it that two 24-year olds could afford such a big and luxurious apartment? While Monica may have inherited it from her late aunt, it is still a question as to how Rachel could afford rent while she worked in a coffee shop. Most of her time was spent speaking to her friends, after all.
The Whole Monica Dating Her Dad’s Best Friend
We all remember when Monica decided to date her dad’s best friend, Richard. However, he knew Monica when she was a child, and that makes it hard to understand how he thought it was then acceptable to date her. What’s more, is that none of her friends had a problem with it, and their relationship lasted longer than we could have imagined. One guy who was not keen on the idea was her father, and we’re on his side with this.
Phoebe’s Concern For Her Brother
While none of the friends had a problem with the age gap between Monica and Richard, Phoebe expressed her concern when her brother started dating an older woman. The age difference was the same as the relationship her best friend was in, but that never bothered her. She did not like that her brother was dating, and having children with, a woman who could have been his mother. She tried to break them up, but it seems their relationship was to last… and Phoebe had their children.
How Did Joey and Phoebe Afford Life?
He would sometimes get roles on Day of Our Lives, and she worked as the occasional masseuse, but how did Phoebe and Joey get by in life when they were never in a full-time job? They lived in one of the most expensive cities in the country, yet they are never seen to be making an annual income over the ten years. At least the other characters were supposedly in full-time jobs, though we hardly saw them ever working either.
Doors Open To Everyone
It seemed that neither Rachel and Monica’s or Joey and Chandler’s apartments were ever locked. Were they not concerned about people breaking and entering at any point? It seems not, which allowed the rest of the gang to come and go as they pleased without having to even check if anyone was home. Handy for Joey who was always on the lookout for food in Monica’s fridge, but perhaps not the best for Monica who would come home to unexpected guests.
When Emily Still Marries Ross
It was that nail-biting moment when Ross said Rachel’s name at the altar when marrying Emily. While you may think this is a clear red flag for Emily to run away, and run fast, she still marries him! Not only had she been completely embarrassed in front of her family and friends, but the person she was about to marry had also mentioned his former lover’s name. Even Phoebe who was listening over the phone could not believe what she was hearing.
Rachel Becomes The Youngest All Of A Sudden
A whole episode was dedicated to the moment Rachel turned 30. She didn’t seem best pleased with saying goodbye to her twenties and entering this milestone age, but her friends gathered around her to celebrate and lend their support while doing so. However, the episode made out that Rachel was the last one to turn 30 out of the group even though Joey was supposedly the youngest in season one. If the producers had gotten their math right, Rachel then would not have become the youngest in season seven.
When Rachel Said ‘Yes’… To Joey!
This was not the first time Joey got down on one knee to his friend because they were having a baby. However, the difference from when Joey proposed to Phoebe, to when Joey got down on one knee in front of Rachel, is that Rachel actually said yes. While we watched in horror at the miscommunication which Joey didn’t even try and rectify, Rachel was more than happy to go ahead and be engaged to Joey… after having Ross’s baby. Something is very wrong here.
When Rachel Dated Joey
Then Rachel and Joey began dating! A while after the mistaken proposal, the two somehow developed feelings for one another at a time when Rachel was not dating. It seems the producers loved a good romantic storyline for Rachel, and some reason they threw Joey into it when there was no one else. We all know that Ross and Rachel were destined for one another, so why the producers thought Ross’ best friend was a suitable candidate, we’ll never know.
Ross Never Saw Ben
Ross would often mention his son, Ben, but it seemed as though the loving father never actually saw Ben unless it fitted in with the storyline. Carol and Susan may have had sole custody of their son, but Ross lived in the same city as them and still never saw Ben. He was also going to let Rachel move across the world to Paris with Emma, and his concern was more that Rachel was leaving town rather than his daughter.
Ugly Naked Guy
Remember when Ross got naked with Ugly Naked Guy to try and get his apartment? Not only was this completely bizarre, but it worked! Ugly Naked Guy was mentioned from time to time when the friends would look over into his apartment and catch more than they bargained for. However, we should have been more shocked when we thought about the lengths Ross had gone to when trying to get his dream apartment. We don’t think our friends would be happy if we did that.
Rachel Green or Greene?
Jennifer Aniston is best known for her role as Rachel Green, or is it Rachel Greene? We’re not too sure, and we don’t think the writers were either. In the credits of the show, Rachel’s last name is down as Green. However, for her nameplate at her office in Bloomingdales, she is down as Rachel Greene. We understand how it could have got confusing when different actors would play the same role, but not how the characters name spelling could have just suddenly changed.
Ross Is 29 For Three Years
Ross initially states that his birthday is in December, but a couple of years later, he is celebrating his birthday on October 18th. Even more, he is 29 for season 3, 4 and 5, meaning he doesn’t age either. While many people may dread leaving their twenties behind, it is not possible to be the same age for three years, nor does it make any sense as to why the writers did this. We’re sure Rachel would have liked the same treatment on this one.
Why Did They Never Pay For Their Coffee?
Rachel may have been working at Central Perk and offered mate rates to her friends who were there… every day. However, not all their coffee could have been free, nor was Rachel always working to give them a treat or two. So why was it that we never saw any of the gang pay for their coffee? Gunther was kind enough to reserve the couch for them every day, and they still didn’t offer a penny to their favorite hang out spot.
Rachel, Meet Chandler… Again
It seems that Rachel and Chandler met on three separate occasions. While a flashback episode showed the pair meeting when they were at teenagers and about to head to their high school dance, they are also meeting for the first time when Rachel happens to bump into Monica after years apart. However, this doesn’t make sense because viewers are introduced to Rachel in the first episode after she has run away from her wedding, and Monica introduces her to the whole clan, including Chandler, then.
How Is Ross Not Broke?
Ross was known for being unlucky in love after his three failed marriages and subsequent divorces. How was it, though, that Ross was not broke after all these divorces? After all, lawyers are expensive, but it seems that none of his three divorces wiped out his bank account. We may not know whatever happened to him and Rachel but in our made up minds, we hope they are happily married, and there is no divorce in sight for the loved-up couple.
Friends Who Like To Just Go For Coffee
New York is known for being one of the perfect cities for twenty-somethings to grow up in. The social life and nightlife are what keeps the city from never sleeping, after all. Therefore, it would make sense that young adults living in the city would be spending most of their times out in bars and clubs. Not for these friends, however. They were only seen to be in a bar once, during a flashback episode before the bar turned into Central Perk.
‘Tis The Season To Spend Together
Over the holidays, most people head home to spend time with their family. Minus the fact that Ross and Monica are family, the clan would always spend the holidays with one another. People were surprisingly invited from time to time when another friend of theirs would appear out of the blue; otherwise, it was the six of them together once again. A good thing they had a chef amongst them, otherwise who knows who would have done all the holiday cooking.
Which Key Is This?
There is no forgetting the episode in Season 10, titled ‘The One With The Late Thanksgiving’ when the heads-through-the-door moment happened. After being locked out of Monica and Chandler’s apartment as punishment for being late, Rachel retrieves an ‘old key’ and unlocks the door. With the chain still on, we see four floating heads appear to say sorry. However, in Season Eight, the locks were changed after Rachel moved out and Joey told the superintendent there was a leak, meaning the key should never have worked.
The Marriage And The Ink Was Not Permanent
No one can forget the moment Ross and Rachel got married in Season Five during a drunken moment in Las Vegas, and no one can forget the fact they had ink all over their face when they did it. With the permanent ink on their faces, the whole point of the episode was how the ink would not come off. However, at the beginning of Season Six, when they are seen to be having breakfast, there is no sign of any ink, and it had somehow magically disappeared.
Chandler Can Cry
For the entire episode of ‘The One Where Chandler Can’t Cry,’ the friends are all trying their luck at making funny man Chandler cry. However, his tear ducts refuse to show any form of emotion and all their work leads to no avail. Although the episode speaks of how Chandler can’t cry, in an earlier season, the gang are heard speaking about the time Phoebe made Chandler ‘cry like a baby,’ which she fails to remember in this later episode.
Ross Trying To Make Us Believe He Doesn’t Like Ice Cream
There was nothing more shocking than the time Ross claimed he doesn’t like ice cream during an episode in Season Seven, expressing that it’s ‘too cold.’ However, we knew that there was no way he couldn’t possibly enjoy the refreshing snack, and he proved this when he was seen eating off a cone with Marcel and Elizabeth. What’s more, is that this did not happen just the once, but twice! This just proves you can’t believe everything people say.
The Sudden Change Of Venue
Monica may have gone on a whim to put her name down on the waiting list to have her perfect wedding at the museum, but fortunately, there was a cancellation, and the room could be hers. Better yet, when the museum called to notify Monica of the cancellation, Chandler picked up the phone, panicked at the message, but then this prompted his proposal. However, after all that fuss, the couple did not even get married in the museum and were seen in a completely different venue without any explanation.
Chandler forgets quite a lot, and he also somehow forgot the time Monica was fat when they were teenagers. As a long-term friend of Ross, Chandler knew of his friend’s younger sister growing up and was even caught calling Monica ‘fat’ when visiting the Gellar’s for Thanksgiving. However, in the episode ‘The One With The Prom Video,’ Monica said the camera adds 10lbs, with Chandler acting shocked and responded with, ‘how many cameras were on you?’ This makes no sense.
Could Phoebe Speak French?
We could never quite keep up with Phoebe; sometimes she was working as a masseuse, at one time she was homeless and living on the streets, and other times she wrote her own songs and sang for money. Moreover, Phoebe also claimed to speak French, and after claiming she was fluent, tried to teach Joey the language before his audition. However, in an earlier episode called, ‘The One With Rachel’s Date,’ Phoebe appears not to know what ‘sous chef’ means, which proves she could never have been fluent.
When Rachel Hired Tag Because Of His Looks
When Tag walked into Rachel’s office for a job interview, she was completely taken aback by his good looks. So much so, she decided to hire him as her assistant, even though he had never worked in an office, and had very little experience. While he may not have known what he was doing job wise, he did share the same feelings for Rachel, and they began dating. The problem with this situation, is that no one saw this as a problem.
Why Did No One Laugh At Chandler’s Jokes?
We may not have known what Chandler ever did for a living, but one thing we did know, is that he was hilarious. His friends didn’t seem to think the same, and we are unsure as to why. In most episodes of the show, Chandler was sure to crack a joke, and we would be sitting on our couches laughing at every single one. Meanwhile, his friends would stare at him blankly and change to their next topic of conversation. This, we will never understand.
No New Friends
How was it that all six members of the group didn’t have any other friends? Having been in their twenties at the time, you would think they would have their home or college friends that they would have to spend their time with too. While we can appreciate spending most of your time with your best friends, it is hard to believe that these young adults would only hang out with one another and have no external friends from the group.
Chick And Duck… And Marcel
Joey and Chandler must have had a very nice landlord to allow them to have Chick and Duck in their apartment. Better yet, Ross’s monkey, Marcel, was allowed in from time to time. However, we can’t imagine that this would be allowed in most New York apartments, let alone any. The beloved pets were always just there, and we thought nothing of it when they appeared on our screens, or when Chandler tried to play hide and seek with them.
The One When Monica Had A Stable Job
When Monica, Chandler, and Ross did appear to be working, they found it strange that Rachel, Joey, and Phoebe did not have stable jobs in their twenties. Ironically, Rachel working in a coffee shop before moving to fashion, Phoebe testing out different jobs, and Joey being a struggling actor, was more realistic. We understand Monica loved to cook, but to be able to become the head chef of a restaurant at such a young age, would have meant not spending so much time at Central Perk.
Who’s Kissed Who?
Having spent so much time together, the friends got to learn of each other’s families. However, it seems that almost everyone got a little too close to comfort with some of their friend’s relatives. Ross kissed Chandler’s mom, Chandler kissed one of Joey’s sisters, Rachel dated Ross, Chandler married Monica, and Joey dated Phoebe’s twin, Ursula. Perhaps that is why Joey and Phoebe never ended up together as a couple – because a relative didn’t connect them.
