A Tale Of Two Students
Prince William and Kate’s love story began in 2002 after they had already known each other for a year. The young loves crossed paths in 2001 when they were both studying art history, and they moved into a house together with two other friends.
Kate Made All The Right Moves
While the two started off as friends, it is believed that Prince William’s affection for Kate started to grow when she took part in a charity fashion show in March 2002. The Prince had paid $360 for a front row ticket to watch his future bride walk down the catwalk in a revealing ensemble. At this time, however, Kate was dating a fellow St. Andrew’s student, and it was not until that relationship ended that her relationship with the Prince began to blossom.
Taking Their Relationship Abroad
It was only in 2004 that the first picture of the couple was published. After being photographed enjoying a ski break in Klosters, it was confirmed that these two art history students were in a serious relationship with one another. This was Prince William’s first serious relationship and it was even reported that Kate was invited to spend several weekends at the Queen’s Balmoral estate. The pair tried their best to keep their budding romance under wraps and enjoy their private time with one another.
End Of An Era
Prince William and Kate both graduated from university in June 2005, and the couple was joined by both their families after the ceremony to enjoy a celebratory lunch together. This marked the end of the couple’s studies, but it was just the beginning of their lives together. They were able to live a couple of years in seclusion, but upon leaving Fife, they were not granted such luxury. Prince William and Kate’s relationship caused a media frenzy, and everyone wanted a glimpse of this Royal couple.
First Family Event
Prince William and his girlfriend, Kate, made their first appearance at a family event a year after they graduated from university, in May 2006. The couple was seen attending the wedding of the Duchess of Cornwall’s daughter, Laura Parker Bowles, to former Calvin Klein model turned accountant, Harry Lopes. Royal watchers saw this event as a sign that William and Kate were serious about one another, and that Kate would be a permanent fixture in the Prince of England’s life.
In 2006, rumors began to swirl that the couple was soon to be engaged after Kate went to watch William graduate as an army officer from Sandhurst military academy. Kate even drew comparisons to the Prince’s late mother, Diana, when she wore a red coat and black hat, and she suddenly became a target for the paparazzi. It was from this moment that the couple was followed closely in their day-to-day lives and that the engagement rumors refused to die down.
When Everything Went Wrong
In April 2007, everything changed when reports announced that the royal couple had parted ways. While their relationship looked stable and steady to the public eye, things approved to be very different. HELLO! royal correspondent, Judy Wade, suggested, “Maybe she realized the awful burden she would have taken on, it’s a life sentence marrying a royal.” While Kate may have just ended a relationship with the most eligible bachelor in Britain, other reports suggested it was because Kate wanted to settle down, and the Prince was not ready to.
Just because Kate was officially no longer with Prince William, that did not mean the media did not want to follow her every move. The media continued to follow Kate, who was certainly not looking as though she had just ended her relationship of five years and gone through a very public break up. Kate continued to join her younger sister, Pippa, at their favorite nightclubs. She was showing the world that she was not staying home and feeling sorry for herself.
Kate Sighted Sitting Behind Will
In July of that year, while it had not been announced that the couple was back together, Kate was spotted sitting two seats behind Prince William in the Royal Box at the Concert for Diana. The day before, the Prince was asked if Kate would be attending the concert and his response was: “I’ve got lots of friends coming. Everyone’s going to be there on the night, and it’s going to be a very good night.” This prompted Harry to joke, “Really well avoided William, very diplomatic.”
Just one month later, in August 2007, Prince William had taken Kate on vacation to the Seychelles. It was reported that the couple had booked the entire resort for $32,000 and, in a bid to keep their relationship low key, booked under the names of Martin and Rosemary. At the same time the couple was trying to have a normal relationship, reports began to circulate in the U.K. that Kate was given keys to was William’s official residence at Clarence House.
If It’s Good Enough For The Queen
Although the Seychelles would have seemed to be the perfect romantic spot for the Prince to propose to the beautiful brunette, the couple still did not get engaged. Meanwhile, there was another momentous occasion for the couple, and that was Kate’s first meeting with the Queen since her split with the Prince had been announced. The royal couple headed to Balmoral, the Royal Scottish home where the Queen and her husband, Prince Phillip, spend their summers.
Kate Was Given Her Own Royal Protection Officer
The Royal couple headed on another vacation during the Easter break and, once again, their beloved Klosters proved to be the perfect getaway. The couple had little time for romance in previous months since Prince William was taking part in an intensive pilot training course at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire. This Easter break was their time to enjoy time with one another and, for the first time, Kate was granted a Royal Protection officer on the slopes. This once again proved her importance within the Royal circles.
Back Together Again
Kate made her first appearance at her boyfriend’s side at a formal event just over a year after their reported split. In April 2008, Kate was by William’s side once again when he received his wings upon completing his RAF training. This was the first formal event Kate had attended since 2006 when she was in attendance at his Sandhurst graduation. Once again, Kate managed to stand out in the crowd and turn heads in her ivory-colored coat and black suede, calf-length boots.
Kate Filling In For The Prince
Things became really serious when William was duty-bound to attend another event, so Kate went in his place to his cousin, Peter Phillips’, wedding. The second-in-line to the throne allowing Kate to stand in for him at a family, and Royal, event, proved to Palace insiders the strength of their relationship. With their relationship back on track, and Kate attending this wedding, the rumor mill was up and running once again, syaing that an engagement would happen at any moment for the royal couple.
Royal Knight of the Garter
In June 2008, Kate took her place at Windsor Castle to witness William’s installation as a Royal Knight of the Garter. The order was established in 1348 by Edward III, and the Prince became the 1,000th person to receive this honor. The Queen led the historic installation Service, and Kate attended the most colorful service of the House of Windsor alongside William’s stepmother, Camilla, and his brother, Prince Harry. There were certainly no doubts in regards to Kate’s future in regrds to becoming a Royal family member.
Kate Right By Will’s Side
In 2010, Kate once again showed her support when Will was to receive his wings after completing an advanced training course. The couple sat together in the audience and appeared to share intimate moments with one another before he graduated at RAF Shawbury. Prince Charles, who presented Flight Lieutenant William with his flying badge in his capacity as Air Chief Marshal, appeared to speak about Kate in his speech. He said, “Today is a day, I think, of great pride for all of the parents, not to mention the girlfriends.”
In October 2010, the public watched how happy and in love the royal couple looked when they attended a wedding together. While the couple continued to attend weddings, many had continued to speculate as to when Prince William and Kate would be engaged. Little did the world know, however, that the couple was hiding a very special secret at this time. In fact, the Prince had already proposed to his girlfriend of eight years during their holiday together with friends in Kenya.
A Wedding That Made History
The 2011 Royal wedding became one of the most televised events in history, with an estimated 2 billion people tuning in from around the world. The Duchess’ custom Alexander McQueen wedding gown is also now known as one of the most famous wedding dresses of all time and has been an inspiration for wedding dresses ever since. Furthermore, another historic moment of the wedding was the balcony kiss. The new Royal couple did not just share one kiss but two when William was seen saying, “Let’s give them another one.”
First Official Tour As Husband And Wife
Just two months after tying the knot, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their first official tour overseas as a married couple. They traveled around the US and Canada for a total of 11 days, marking the first time Kate had visited North America. Their tour also fell during the same time as the 225th anniversary of the first Royal visit to Canada by Prince William turned King William IV. Kate wore Canadian fashion designers throughout the trip, and locals gave the couple a warm welcome on their visit.
Baby Number One On The Way
The rumor mill went into overdrive once again in the fall of 2012, when the public noticed a change in Kate’s appearance. Speculation grew that the Duchess was pregnant with her first child when she seemed to have a slightly fuller face. On December 3, Kensington Palace announced that the Royal couple was expecting but, at that point, Kate was less than two months pregnant. However, Kate was admitted to hospital for severe morning sickness, and they decided to make the announcement earlier than planned.
A Royal Baby
William and Kate announced the birth of their first child, Prince George, to the world on July 22, 2013. The Royal baby became the third-in-line to the throne, following his grandfather and father, and made his first official appearance on the steps of the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London. The Jenny Packham dress Kate wore when making an appearance following giving birth seemed to be a similar outfit to that of Princess Diana when she gave birth to Prince William.
Prince George’s Christening
Three months later, official photographs were released from the Palace showing how much Prince George had grown by the time of his christening. The small and intimate ceremony took place at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace, where Prince George wore a replica of the traditional royal christening and was surrounded by his family members. Kate looked as elegant as always in a cream-colored Alexander McQueen coat dress with frill detailing and a cream beret to match.
First Family Tour
Before even turning one, Prince George accompanied his parents on his first debut overseas tour to Australia and New Zealand. In fact, his father had done the same when he was just nine months old, and the couple made it no secret that they were looking forward to this first family trip. Speaking of the trip, William’s private secretary Miguel Head said, “The Duke has no doubt that his wife will fall in love with New Zealand and Australia every bit as much as he did, some years ago.”
A Royal Wedding On The Way
It was the following month, however, in November 2010, that the couple broke their silence on their exciting news. The couple announced that they were engaged and showed the world that Prince William had presented his future bride with his late mother, Princess Diana’s, ring. The blue sapphire and diamond sparkler was seen across the world when their engagement made every news headline and outlet. The delighted couple admitted that they had spoken about marriage for a while, so it was not a big surprise!
The Duchess of Cambridge
In April 2011, the world tuned in to watch Kate marry her Prince Charming in a Royal ceremony at Westminster Abbey. Kate arrived in a Phantom Rolls Royce VI and was a vision in white when she arrived wearing an Alexander McQueen wedding gown. The crowd watched on in awe as the bride made her way to the Church, with her bridesmaids and page boys following close behind. While she arrived at the Church as Miss Middleton, she left as Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge.
Baby Number Two On The Way
In August 2014, the Royal couple made another big announcement when they shared with the world that they were expecting their second child. The announcement sent the internet into a frenzy once again and, after suffering from severe morning sickness in the early months, the Duchess emerged in her stylish maternity outfit choices. The world and the Royal fans rejoiced at the fact there would be another Royal baby and waited in anticipation to see what William and Kate would be having.
It’s A Girl
On May 2, 2015, it was announced that the Duchess of Cambridge had gone into labor, and the media lined the streets outside the hospital to get the first photos of the new Royal baby. It was later revealed that the Royal couple had welcomed a daughter named Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Her name paid tribute to her grandfather, Prince Charles, her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and her late grandmother, Princess Diana. The new couple was ecstatic that they had a daughter and that George now had a little sister.
Princess Charlotte’s Christening
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were now a family of four and made their debut at Princess Charlotte’s christening on July 5, 2015. The Princess arrived at the service in Queen Elizabeth’s vintage carriage, but it was not just the guest of honor making headlines. Prince George was also making headlines the next day when he walked alongside his parents to the ceremony. The curious youngster charmed onlookers with his Rachel Riley outfit, an outfit which resembled a near-copy of one once worn by his dad.
A Family of Four
William and Kate released their first official family portrait in December 2015, which saw the happy couple with their two young children. Speaking of becoming a parent, Kate has said, “My parents taught me about the importance of qualities like kindness, respect, and honesty, and I realize how central values like these have been to me throughout my life. That is why William and I want to teach our little children, George and Charlotte just how important these things are as they grow up.”
It’s A Boy
Already parents to two adorable children, Kate and William announced they were expecting their third on September 4, 2017. The couple confirmed that their family of four was expanding once again and that their new addition would be born in April 2018. On April 23, it was announced that Kate had gone into labor, and it was later revealed that she had given birth to a boy and the new Prince of England. Their newborn, who is fifth-in-line to the throne, was named Prince Louis Arthur Charles.
